Burton “Burt” Hong joined Monarch in August 2024. In his role as Chief Legal Officer, Burt plays a key role in Monarch’s mergers and acquisitions strategy, providing legal oversight to ensure smooth transactions as the company continues to grow. His leadership is also instrumental in centralizing legal operations, driving risk reduction, and supporting field operations with top-tier legal guidance.
Burt brings over 20 years of legal expertise to his role. Prior to joining Monarch, he was Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Interim CHRO at CoolSys, the private equity backed US leader in commercial HVAC-R, where he led more than 20 acquisitions. In 2019, Burt was recognized as General Counsel of the Year by the Orange County Business Journal. He has also held positions as a securities litigation and enforcement associate at LeClair Ryan and a litigation associate at Jones Day in Washington, D.C.
Burt began his legal career interning for the Honorable Vanessa Gilmore in the U.S. Federal District Court in Houston, Texas. He holds a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics from Rice University, where he attended on a tennis scholarship.
In addition to his professional achievements, Burt is actively involved in philanthropy, serving on the Board of the American Cancer Society in Orange County and as a Board Trustee at The Pegasus School.
