Changes in the Landscape Services Industry

The landscape services industry is not exempt from the changes in the labor market, increase in fuel costs and changes in the corporate real estate environment. With this, we know that our clients are faced with multiple price increases from various vendors. Within Landscape Services, we can help. As your business partner in landscape services, please understand that we are constantly looking for ways to reduce cost in our supply network, reach our financial goals, maintain market competitiveness, and ensure employee satisfaction as your preferred landscape services partner. In this post, we have outlined some ways for you to have a thoughtful conversation with your service providers.

Start with a walk

Now more than ever is an excellent time to ask your vendor for a Landscape Assessment during a property walk.  Through this process you should receive from your vendor thoughtful review of cost breakdowns for the services outlined in your scope of work (SOW) and additional areas of your property that would benefit from technical landscape or irrigation expertise.

Understand vendor costs

According to the AAA, fuel costs are up over 44% over last year. Fuel is vital to trucks, equipment, and general transportation of materials to maintain and beautify your landscaping. In addition, The World Bank has noted that fertilizer has increase as much as fifty-one percent. PVC and Irrigation Components are both petroleum-based products that will continue to see increase costs as well. Irrigation supply companies are running short on certain supplies and now only offering one day guaranteed pricing on material purchases. We are having to move quickly for our clients to ensure we have the raw materials, vehicles, trailers, mowers, batteries (for electric equipment) to ensure proper maintenance of your landscape.

People first

Many like to think landscaping is about plants, trees, flowers, and the bees. There’s more to it – the people. Understandably so, the hardworking men and women who care for your property require a higher base wage to support their families. At Monarch Landscape, our vision is to lead the landscape industry by outperforming peers in how we serve our customers and employees. We are committed to being the best place to work as a landscape professional. This means higher starting salaries, dedicated training hours, full benefits, and increased wages. By living our mission and vision everyday at every location, we are seeing a reduction in new hire turnover and a steep reduction in seasonal staff reductions.

Create a partnership

When you are transparent with your property goals with your landscape vendor, your vendor can be transparent with you on property recommendations. At Monarch, this is what we do best. A valued partnership with Monarch Landscape Companies means we work to develop maximum value for your landscape budget. We will simplify your life with timely delivery on your scope of work, clear consistent communications, and proactive property improvement recommendations. We work together with our clients to optimize your landscape budget in the areas that are most visible or costly. It is not unusual for our project managers to review and adjust the scope of work to address drought, aging irrigation, or changes in corporate infrastructure.
